Application Architect (Milliman SkySail)

About the position

The Application Architect at Milliman SkySail is responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the implementation of software applications that meet business requirements while ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability. This role involves collaborating with product managers, developers, and senior architects to create robust software solutions and optimize application performance, aligning with the enterprise architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scalable, secure, and sustainable application architectures that align with business requirements.
  • Identify and leverage seams within existing legacy desktop applications to refactor and migrate the codebase to a web-based architecture.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, stakeholders, Engineers, and Senior Architects to translate business needs into technical specifications.
  • Leverage proven design principles such as clean code, refactoring, and test-driven development to ensure high-quality software solutions.
  • Optimize application performance to ensure responsiveness and reliability for front-end and data teams.
  • Ensure application designs and implementations are consistent with the enterprise architecture.
  • Participate in peer review processes and contribute to the continuous improvement of development practices.
  • Ensure application code is held to a high standard and work with application engineers to identify and resolve areas of improvement.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience specifically as an Architect, Lead Engineer, or related role.
  • Familiarity with building web services on AWS.
  • Fluency in Python.
  • Fluency in C#.

  • Experience building data visualization applications.
